What a BTX File Does
A BTX file is a Tool Chest package for Bluebeam Revu. Instead of placing loose image symbols one at a time, a BTX import can add an organised group of reusable markup tools to the Tool Chest. This is why BTX is the most important format for users who want a fast, repeatable workflow.
BTX vs PNG vs SVG
BTX is the ready-to-import Tool Chest format. PNG files are transparent image assets that can be placed manually on PDFs. SVG files are editable source assets that are useful for customisation and future editing. A strong download package can include all three, but only BTX gives the one-step Tool Chest import experience.
Why Contractors Prefer Organised Tool Chest Groups
A well-organised Tool Chest lets a contractor find symbols by discipline, place consistent markups and keep subject names cleaner in the Markups List. This helps during drawing review, takeoff, coordination and handover because the same tools are reused across multiple sheets and projects.
Import and Test Checklist
When testing a BTX download:
- 1Save the file in a simple local folder such as Downloads.
- 2Open a PDF in Bluebeam Revu before opening the Tool Chest panel.
- 3Use the Tool Chest import menu to select the BTX file.
- 4Confirm that the expected groups appear in the Tool Chest.
- 5Place several tools on a drawing and check scale, label, appearance and editability.
- 6Back up or export your customised project version separately.
